Their issue was too many COMMERCIAL stock animals in the high sierra. They sued the NPS to get the NPS to establish limits based on science, not on politics.
Congress then passed a special law that invalidated the lawsuit:

It is amazing to me that nobody was looking at the UC studies showing the problems along with recommendations from the Rangers.

I was very uncomfortable how they were scattering the horse manure. How often do they use that lake as part of their commercial enterprise? Imagine the nitrogen plume being released into the creeks and lakes.
Certainly the lakes and creeks can take some biological/nitrogen load. How much is something we need to defer to studies that can measure the impacts.
And for the record, I do like horses. I have a couple of stories to tell about them in the future on my vlog.
